After the takeover of the Nazis in Germany and the expansion of their territory in the following year countless scholars had to safe their life by going into exile. Abroad both well-known professors and unknown outsiders were in need of help by insiders. Fortunately for these refugee scholars British an American colleagues of them had created supporting schemes with the help of philanthropic foundations. Gustav Ichheiser is a case in point to demonstrate the troubles a less well-known and not very young refugee with no given social network experienced in the attempt to establish himself professionally in the United States.
