Models of musical meter, temporal perception and onset quantization

Georg Boenn

pp. 113-146

In this and the following chapter I will describe how it is possible to extract rhythm data from audio recordings, and to transcribe note onsets into music notation. For the collection of note onset data used by the rhythm quantization and transcription algorithms, which I develop in Chap.  9, we need to understand and apply current techniques of onset detection from various data sources. For instance, we would like to know how accurate they are, and how much noise is likely to occur in the data when those methods are being used.
