In the following remarks, it will be impossible to survey the complex relationship between Habermas and Derrida, which was shaped by diverse and numerous misunderstandings.1 Therefore, my chapter aims to stress the basic outlines of their different approaches to thinking about Europe in order to meet the challenges of the ambitious topic "Transcending Europe.'
