La connexité discursive entre le narrateur et le héros huysmansien, ajoutée aux correspondances entre la vie de l"auteur et celle de ses personnages, ont orienté une partie de la critique à appréhender l"œuvre de Huysmans exclusivement en termes biographiques et théologiques. Prenant acte de certaines données paratextuelles, la critique biographique explique l"œuvre par l"homme et l"homme par l"œuvre et établit une logique d"identification toujours plus forte. Pour certains critiques, Huysmans écrirait dans le but de réaliser une autoanalyse, une class="EmphasisTypeItalic ">catharsis aptes à satisfaire sa quête d"identité. Selon nous, une telle lecture dessert plus qu"elle ne sert la compréhension de l"œuvre et restreint dangereusement sa complexité. Les partisans de la lecture autobiographique omettent en effet de confronter le paratexte aux différents textes et minimisent certains éléments paratextuels qui restreignent la validité de leur démarche. Bon nombre de données paratextuelles associées à une mise en contexte révèlent en effet que l"œuvre de Huysmans n"est pas fondée sur une logique d"écriture par identification mais par amplification. Cette déformation du réel replace Huysmans dans l"ordre de la création : l"écriture « fictionnalise » et le paratexte permet de le revendiquer et de ne pas masquer le travail d"imagination.The discursive link between the narrator and the Huysmans type hero, added to the similarities between the author's life and that of his characters, have directed some of the critics towards analysing Huysmans's works only in terms of biography and theology. Noting some of the paratext information, the biographic critics give an analysis of the work through the author and one of the man through his work and set up a systematic identification between the author and his characters. In some critic's mind, Huysmans wrote in order to do a self-analysis and a catharsis to satisfy his quest for identity. To us, such a reading goes against the understanding of the work and limits dangerously its complexity. Those who are in favour of an autobiographic reading forget to compare the paratext to the text itself and minimize some elements of the paratext, which restrict the relevance of their analysis. Many paratext information associated to the context thus reveal that Huysmans's work isn't founded on a process of writing bases on identification but on accentuation. That distortion of reality puts Huysmans in the realm of creativity: the writing process creates fiction and the paratext reinforces that idea and consequently the work of imagination is not hidden.
