Summary and implications

David Ian Jeffrey

pp. 217-232

This chapter summarises the key findings of this innovative research. The overarching theme is the tension between connection and detachment from the patient. It is hoped that the conclusions will resonate with medical educators who may appreciate the insights gained from the students' stories. In any phenomenological research, drawing implications for undergraduate medical education must be tentative. It is suggested that this medical school needs to redress the balance between the biomedical and psychosocial elements of patient care.
