Dieser Beitrag verfolgt anhand einiger Schriften des Comenius seine Einstellung zum Problem der Sprachenvielfalt. Comenius fordert bekanntlich einerseits die Pflege der Muttersprache, andererseits aber auch die Schaffung einer allen Völkern gemeinsamen Sprache. Solange es diese jedoch noch nicht gibt, könne das Lateinische diese Funktion erfüllen. Am Modell der lateinischen Sprache entwickelt er seine sprachdidaktischen Prinzipien, die als wichtige Schritte auf dem Weg zur modernen Fremdsprachendidaktik gelten dürfen.In this paper, the author analyses Comenius' position concerning the problem that there is a multitude of languages. As is well known, Comenius calls for the cultivation of the mother tongue, and the parallel creation of a common language for all peoples. However, whilst ever such a language does not exist, Latin is suited to fulfil this function. Taking the Latin language as a model, the author develops Comenius' didactic principles for language learning. They can be considered to be important steps on the road to a modern didactic concept for language learning.
