(2014) Relational social work practice with diverse populations, Dordrecht, Springer.
This chapter addresses the application of relational-cultural therapy with Hispanics in the United States. It prepares clinical practitioners and graduate clinical social work students for the challenge of providing psychosocial care to Hispanics. The chapter applies core tenets of relational-cultural theory to a model of psychotherapeutic treatment that is consistent with the cultural expectations and value characteristics of most Hispanic populations residing in the United States. The chapter also demonstrates how relational theory is adaptable to a relational-cultural approach. It directs clinicians and clinical students to explore how issues related to diversity, powerlessness, and marginalization affect the psychosocial functioning and development of individuals and how clinical practice can effectively address these issues.
